How do I find a good muralist?

These 5 simple steps should help.

  1. Ask to see a portfolio of their work and/or see actual work they have done or are doing.
  2. Make sure you are comfortable with the artist and have good communication.
  3. Make sure they have liability insurance in case of any damage.
  4. Ask for and contact references.
  5. Negotiate a written agreement. The scope of the work, size, paints, etc., a completion date and price and deposit should all be included.

What's the process?

Once you call us, it's simple. We come to the site for a consultation. We prepare a proposal, which specifies all the work and the way it is to be done. At this point you may choose to have preliminary drawings done. We prepare an agreement for the project, which specifies a start and end date.

How long will it take?

Your agreement protects you by stating the expected amount of time, including a start and finish date.

How much will it cost?

Every mural is an individual work of art custom created for each client. The unique elements involved in pricing are the scale of the work, the amount of detail, and the difficulty of execution (scaffolding, etc.), and there is no design fee for preliminary drawings when a mural is purchased.

What type of paints and sealers do you use for your murals?

We view the earth's resources with the long-term perspective that we are stewards of what is available today. So we use only water-based paints, either 100% acrylic or low VOC latex. It's better on the environment, long lasting, and better for the client because it dries faster and has less odor. High use areas are sealed with FauxEffect's Setcoat™, Aqua Finishing Solution's Aquagard™, other high quality acrylic or polyurethane depending on the requirements.

How do I pronounce those French words, and what do they mean?

Faux ( Foe) “fake” in painting, a surface painted to look like something else; leather, marble, wood, etc.
Trompe l'oeil – (Tromp loy) “to trick the eye” - work that creates the optical illusion that it really exists.
Marouflage – (Marroflahzh) The process of applying canvas directly to the wall or panel with adhesive (originally it was rabbit glue).
